Description

Description

If you want to be fit for spring, it is necessary to keep training throughout the winter. Even in bad weather. The GripGrab AquaRepel Water-Resistant are the bib shorts for the die hards who want to cycle all year round.

Technology

Waterproof and breathable
Often, waterproof and breathable are not two properties you mention in the same breath. Yet that is the case with these winter shorts. Thanks to the smart choice of softshell on the front, side and back sides of the bibs. The softshell consists of three layers, this construction allows the fabric to breathe without letting water through.
Predominantly waterproof, the bib shorts have a DWR coating in some areas, including the back of the knees and the area above the chamois. In these areas, the bob shorts feature a soft fleece with a water-repellent coating.

Comfortable in the saddle
The bib shorts fit closely to the body, however, the fabric is particularly stretchy so it does not feel too tight or uncomfortable. The stretch allows for optimal freedom of movement which does not restrict cycling movement.

Loose inner shorts
The inner shorts are separate from the outer shorts. This makes it tremendously easy to simply wear the outer shorts again the following day, while the inner shorts are in the wash. The inner shorts are made of breathable mesh material that also has good stretch.

Disappointing

- Niek 3 December 2023

I work as a bicycle courier. I am therefore looking for the best trousers with which to brave 5-6 hour showers and wind these days. Unfortunately, the outer fabric of these trousers absorbs so much water that they feel very wet and cold. When you undress afterwards, the skin and inside does feel dry so to be warm as well you would have to wear a thight underneath in addition to the pants with chamois. The contact on the skin of the thin waterproof fabric is uncomfortably cold. I will only use these trousers for changeable days with short showers. Or warmer days with extreme showers. For other wet, cold days, I'll grab an extra pair of normal rain trousers or my Assos trousers. The latter is much better, but also cost more than 2x as much money. The outside does dry reasonably well in the wind so after an hour or so the trousers also start to feel a bit warm again. But obviously I didn't buy the trousers for that. Also, quite a lot of dirt sticks to the legs where with other trousers and leggings with DWR it falls off better during cycling. A pity because you don't want to wash DWR trousers too often! I give 2 stars because the trousers are nice and warm in the autumn cold but I honestly have cheaper cycling trousers that are warmer and more breathable.

Pros & Cons

Absolutely waterproof on the waterproof parts
Warm when dry
Cold when wet
Feels wet when wet
Tight, plenty of compression at right length
